X and music publishers settle opposing lawsuits

X and major music publishers have quietly ended a three-year legal dispute by dismissing their opposing lawsuits. The agreement came without disclosure of settlement terms.

The original lawsuit was filed in 2023 by the National Music Publishers Association against the platform then known as Twitter. It sought $250 million and alleged thousands of copyright infringements by users that the company failed to address.

X later filed a counter-suit claiming the publishers engaged in anticompetitive practices. Both sides requested dismissal of the cases with prejudice in recent court filings.

Neither party has provided an explanation for the resolution. The platform previously lacked licensing agreements with music publishers, unlike many other major social media services.
