The Union Cabinet approved a draft bill providing up to 10 years in jail and fines up to Rs 10 crore for exam paper leaks. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the move on Thursday.
On Friday the Cabinet approved the bill that gives statutory backing to fast-track courts and sets a five-month timeline for probe and trial.
Modi posted an Instagram video on Thursday midnight assuring students that the government stands with them. He said paper leaks are not a minor matter.
In Wednesday's Cabinet meeting Modi advised ministers to stay active on platforms like Instagram to connect with youth.
On Friday Modi posted another video thanking people for their positive suggestions.
