A 67-year-old man in Winsted, Connecticut, faces murder charges after police say he killed his estranged wife and then tried to take his own life. The discovery came after their adult child found a trail of blood in the home.
Leon Stetson has been charged with murder, violation of a protective order, and home invasion. He is held on a $3 million bond.
Police responded Monday evening after a witness reported blood in the bathroom that stretched to the bedroom. Officers found Carrie Stetson, 54, dead with a knife nearby. Leon Stetson was found with a neck injury and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
At the hospital, authorities say Stetson wrote a note and made statements about the incident. An autopsy confirmed that Carrie Stetson died from sharp force injuries. Court records note a protective order against Leon Stetson and reports of strain in the relationship.
