Herman Liv returns to HV71 amid goalkeeper competition

Nineteen-year-old goalkeeper Herman Liv has returned to HV71 after stints with Örebro and Almtuna. The Swedish junior world champion faces strong competition for playing time in the SHL.

Liv signed with the club earlier this spring and described the move as a natural step home to Jönköping. He joins Felix Sandström and Olof Glifford on the goalkeeper roster.

"We are three goalkeepers now in the first year. Olof and Felix are really good. So we will see what happens," Liv told JP. "It will be a competition as always, so we will see if it becomes SHL play or Allsvenskan play for my part."

Liv had a breakthrough season on loan at Almtuna in the HockeyAllsvenskan while helping Sweden win gold at the junior world championship. He said he hopes to test SHL action next season but remains flexible.

No loan discussions have taken place yet. Liv noted that if he does not receive playing time he would prefer to be loaned out to gain matches at any level.

Several Swedish hockey players have shared updates on their careers following the 2025-26 season.

Goaltender Felix Sandström, the 29-year-old Gävle native, has signed a two-year contract extension with HV71 through 2028, the club announced. His heroics in HV71's 4-0 SHL qualification series sweep over Leksand, where he allowed just five goals, secured the team's top-flight survival and completes a revamped goaltending trio in Jönköping.

Goalkeeper Lassi Lehtinen has departed SHL club HV71 to join newly promoted Björklöven on a one-year deal. The move comes despite one year remaining on his contract with HV71.

Luleå Hockey has loaned its 19-year-old goaltender Isak Sörqvist to Vimmerby in the Hockeyallsvenskan. The move will give the young prospect senior-level experience as he vies for a spot on Sweden's junior national team.
