Indiana man arrested after wife dies in shooting

Stephen Ray Lang was arrested Thursday night and charged with murder after his wife was fatally shot inside their home in southern Indiana.

Deputies from the Harrison County Sheriff's Department responded to a 911 call shortly before 10 p.m. at the family's residence on Hillcrest Drive in Mauckport. First responders found Sara M. Lang suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Lang, 32, told authorities the shooting was accidental. He faces charges of murder, domestic battery, intimidation, and pointing a firearm. Two children, ages 14 and 4, were present during the incident.

Lang's sister told WLKY that an argument between Sara Lang and the teenage boy prompted her brother to intervene with a handgun. She said he had previously displayed firearms during disputes to intimidate others. The Harrison County Coroner's Office is scheduled to perform an autopsy as the investigation continues.
