Izumi City mother-daughter murders involved over 10 stab wounds each to head and neck

Police investigating the murders of a 76-year-old mother and her 41-year-old daughter in their Izumi City, Osaka Prefecture apartment said each suffered more than 10 stab wounds to the head and neck. A male relative discovered the bodies around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving a call from the daughter's workplace about her absence. No murder weapon was found at the scene.

Police in Izumi City, Osaka Prefecture, reported that Kazuko Murakami, 76, and her daughter Yuka Murakami, 41, each sustained more than 10 stab wounds to the head and neck in their apartment murders discovered on Wednesday. According to Jiji Press, a male relative went to the apartment around 12:30 p.m. after a call from Yuka's workplace noting her absence and found the women collapsed on the floor, bleeding from multiple wounds; he dialed 110.

Autopsies placed the time of death around 4 a.m., with both victims in sleepwear. Kyodo News reported Kazuko was found in the living room and Yuka near the kitchen. The entrance door was unlocked, and no weapon was recovered inside the apartment.

Yuka, a social worker, returned home around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday per her car's dashcam footage. On Friday, police divers searched a nearby pond for the weapon using an underwater drone.

Investigators are also reviewing street surveillance footage near the first-floor apartment from overnight. The probe continues.
