Kimi Antonelli claimed his first Formula 1 grand slam at the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday. The Mercedes driver won from pole position while leading every lap and setting the fastest lap of the race.
Antonelli recorded his fifth consecutive victory of the season. He built a 30-second lead before a safety car was deployed following Lance Stroll's crash. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said the team was surprised by Antonelli's pace. He noted that the Italian posted laps two seconds quicker than the McLarens and more than a second faster than Ferrari. The 19-year-old became the youngest driver to achieve a grand slam, surpassing Max Verstappen's previous record by nearly four years. Antonelli now leads the drivers' championship by 66 points over Lewis Hamilton and by 68 points over teammate George Russell. Wolff expressed continued confidence in Russell despite the points gap and recent setbacks for the British driver.
