Kwale County issues 28-day notice to chicken farmer

Public health officers in Kwale County have issued a 28-day notice to a chicken farm in Kiteje Village to address complaints about bad odor and flies.

Matuga Public Health Officer Vincent Mosomi said the county government intervened after residents complained that the situation had affected their health and lives.

The farm houses about 9,000 laying chickens and faces challenges in handling waste. The flies pose a public health threat as they can spread diseases such as cholera.

The investor was advised to adopt sustainable waste management methods including ways to convert chicken waste into biogas energy. Farm managers acknowledged receiving the complaints and said they have already begun taking steps to improve the situation.
