Man convicted of triple murder over karaoke speaker dispute

A California man was convicted last week of first-degree murder for fatally shooting his girlfriend, her twin sister and her brother-in-law during an August 2020 argument in Redlands. Eric Otto White killed Kavina Brooks, Kavona Brooks-Lee and Kenneth Lee after Brooks touched his karaoke speaker and asked him to move out.

White was found guilty on April 30 in San Bernardino County Superior Court. Prosecutors said the shooting stemmed from White sensing a loss of control after Brooks touched the speaker and criticized his reaction to her parenting style. Trial testimony showed White pulled a gun on the group, leading to multiple shots fired at the victims' home. Kavina Brooks and Kenneth Lee died at the scene while Kavona Brooks-Lee died later in hospital.

A Utah judge has denied a defense motion to remove prosecutors from the case against the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The ruling addresses concerns over a potential conflict of interest involving a prosecutor's family member present at the event. The case involves serious charges stemming from a shooting at a university rally last year.

The lawyer for Keshia Golden, a Chicago woman charged with first-degree murder in the 2022 stabbing death of her boyfriend, is urging prosecutors to drop the case, claiming self-defense. The incident occurred hours after Golden's baby shower amid an argument over a microwave. Supporters rallied last week demanding her release.
