NLC and KeNHA to acquire more land for A7 highway expansion

The National Land Commission has issued a notice to acquire additional land for the dualling of the 83-kilometre Nyali Bridge-Mtwapa-Kwa Kadzengo-Kilifi road on behalf of the Kenya National Highways Authority.

In a gazette notice issued on Friday July 3 the National Land Commission said it intends to acquire parcels of land on behalf of the Kenya National Highways Authority in accordance with Section 110 of the Land Act for the dualling of the Nyali Bridge-Mtwapa-Kwa Kadzengo-Kilifi A7 Road Section. The notice updates previous acquisition notices issued between 2020 and 2025 by deleting some parcels correcting details of others and adding fresh properties. The addendum includes several privately owned parcels alongside land linked to Telkom Kenya Bamburi Cement and the Kenya Society for the Deaf Children Registered Trustees.

Affected persons can inspect plans for the proposed acquisition at the commission's offices in Ardhi House Nairobi as well as the County Coordinator's office in Kilifi during official working hours. In a separate notice the commission announced compensation inquiry hearings for landowners whose properties are earmarked for acquisition. The hearings will take place between August 14 and August 16 at the Maweni Shanzu and Mtwapa chiefs' offices.

Landowners have been directed to submit written compensation claims together with copies of their national identity cards KRA PIN certificates ownership documents and bank account details before or on the hearing dates. Companies with interests in the affected parcels have also been asked to provide incorporation documents CR12 records company KRA PIN certificates and identification documents for their directors. The Nyali Bridge-Mtwapa-Kwa Kadzengo-Kilifi road serves thousands of motorists travelling between Mombasa Kilifi Malindi and other northern coastal towns.
