The chief of Chakama area told the Mombasa court that bodies found at Kwa Bi Nzaro were buried in ways that breached Giriama traditions.
Raymond Charo said the bodies were buried without clothes or coffins and in shallow graves. He explained that according to Giriama custom burials take place during the day and the body is placed in a coffin in a grave no less than six feet deep.
The testimony was given in the case of preacher Paul Mackenzie and five co-accused. They face charges of manslaughter over 29 deaths that occurred in 2025 at Kwa Bi Nzaro, Chakama, in Kilifi County.
Police constable Isaiah Barasa and another witness gave evidence about a motorcycle used to transport followers to the site.
