Reports detail Arizona father's neglect before daughter's drowning

Newly released reports describe how Nathan Peru neglected and abused his daughter Tammy Hernandez for years before the 4-year-old drowned in a bathtub in March 2024.

Nathan Peru, who was later shot and killed by officers while awaiting trial, left his daughter alone in the bath at their Tucson home to grab nicotine pouches from a car. He told investigators he filled the tub using the showerhead and stepped outside for about five minutes, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the Arizona Daily Star. Peru claimed he heard a thump and found the child face down upon returning inside.
