The secret deal was reached after intense talks in the Senate led by Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot and a Council of Governors delegation headed by Ahmed Abdullahi.
Governors agreed to appear before the County Expenditure Committee for audits of fund use, dropped demands to remove four senators, and halted public attacks. Senators promised to handle fraud and mismanagement claims per internal rules, maintain discipline, and consider increasing county fund allocations.
An attendee said, “There was great tension. Governors wanted respect assured in meetings, while senators sought full cooperation. In the end, both sides agreed to tone it down.”
Yet divisions surfaced during debate on the Revenue Allocation Bill. Migori Senator Eddy Oketch opposed it, saying the Senate should resolve the dispute fully first. Speaker Amason Kingi adjourned amid chaos, and a source noted differences persist.
