Four months before the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, the AfD is preparing a comprehensive personnel overhaul in ministries and authorities. Top candidate Ulrich Siegmund considers 150 to 200 positions realistic. The party fears resistance from the existing administrative apparatus.
The AfD in Saxony-Anhalt is specifying its plans in case of an election victory. In addition to new ministers and state secretaries, department and section heads are also to be replaced. Internally, up to 250 people are mentioned as needed for key positions.
Ulrich Siegmund stressed that the party extends a hand to everyone regardless of political color. However, if active obstruction is attempted, measures would be necessary. The plans also affect state-owned companies and authorities.
The considerations resemble approaches by right-wing parties in other countries after election wins. In the United States, a similar grasp on the state apparatus after President Donald Trump's second term led to ongoing conflicts.
