Capitec grows business banking with new accounts and clients

Capitec reported strong growth in its business banking division for the financial year ending February 2026. The bank added clients and launched a new account for informal businesses. CEO Graham Lee highlighted lessons from past service issues.

In FY26 business banking contributed R840 million to Capitec earnings, up 20 percent from the prior year. Active business clients rose 71 percent to 456000 while app users increased 65 percent to 172000.

The bank launched its zero-monthly-fee Entrepreneur Account in December 2025. By February 2026 it had onboarded 78000 informal businesses. Its business banking credit loss ratio stood at 2.4 percent.

Graham Lee said the bank learned from earlier outages in personal banking. He noted that Capitec holds under 2 percent of the business banking market and aims to avoid repeating past service problems while scaling.
