Colombia deploys field hospital in Venezuela for earthquake victims

Colombia’s National Unit for Disaster Risk Management sent a humanitarian mission to Venezuela to assist earthquake victims.

The mission includes the transfer of the field hospital from Fundación Hospital San Rafael, to be installed in Caracas. It will have capacity to treat up to 150 patients daily for two and a half months.

It will be operated by 35 health professionals from Emergency Medical Team Colombia, certified by the Pan American Health Organization. Services will cover emergencies, pediatrics, gynecology, laboratory and psychological care.

The operation has support from ECHO of the European Union and Americares. The UNGRD provided 12 beds, one thousand body bags donated by the Fiscalía General de la Nación and five thousand face masks from private donors.

This deployment marks a new phase of the humanitarian response by the government of President Gustavo Petro, after completing the search and rescue work of the USAR COL-1 team.
