Egypt's Minister of Health, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, held a meeting with executives from Ortho House to explore ways to expand cooperation in the healthcare sector, with a strong emphasis on advancing orthopaedic services and robotic surgery, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health. The discussions reviewed existing cooperation frameworks and delved into potential future partnerships, including payment mechanisms and related financial arrangements.
Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar noted that the talks included a proposal to create a centre of excellence for robotic surgery and joint replacement, placing special focus on reducing and preventing surgery-related infections. The parties also examined plans for a specialized centre dedicated to revision joint replacement surgeries, aimed at enhancing clinical outcomes.
The minister directed relevant officials to compile a comprehensive report on infection rates in hospitals specializing in orthopaedic and joint surgeries. He further requested a separate evaluation, coordinated with the Unified Procurement Authority, regarding the nationwide deployment of surgical robots and the training levels provided to medical teams, as per the statement.
The meeting also covered institutional training in robotic surgery and the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding between the two sides. Plans were discussed to establish a specialized training centre and a 'Robot Academy' equipped with advanced simulation technologies for orthopaedic and joint replacement procedures, the ministry added.
