Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held separate calls with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Gaza Representative Nickolay Mladenov, urging a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the deployment of an international stabilisation force, and an immediate humanitarian truce in Sudan. He emphasised the need to reopen the Rafah crossing and support the National Committee for managing Gaza as a temporary transitional body. Guterres praised President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi's role in maintaining security amid complex regional challenges.
In calls held on Friday, Abdelatty focused on transitioning to the second phase of the peace plan, stressing that it requires reopening the Rafah crossing in both directions and supporting the National Committee for managing Gaza, which he described as a temporary transitional body to handle daily affairs until the Palestinian National Authority resumes its responsibilities in the strip.
The minister asserted that a comprehensive reconstruction process and early recovery path must be based on the actual needs of Gaza's population. Regarding Sudan, he called for establishing safe humanitarian corridors and a Sudanese-led political process, reaffirming Egypt's commitment to Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and protection of its national institutions.
During the discussion with Mladenov, Abdelatty identified completing the second phase as an "essential entry point" for gradual reconstruction. Mladenov commended Egypt's decision to join the Peace Council, noting Cairo's diplomatic weight as a vital asset for regional stability. Both sides underscored the necessity of ensuring unhindered, sustainable humanitarian aid flows into Gaza and a secure environment for international relief organisations, agreeing to maintain intensified consultations to support long-term peace in the region.
