Huila reports mortality rates above national average in 2024

The department of Huila recorded mortality rates in 2024 that were between 16% and 29% above the national average, according to a report by the Colombian Association of Integral Medicine Companies.

The Salud en Cifras bulletin, released on May 23, 2026, analyzed health sector data from 2015 to 2024. Huila ranks alongside Guaviare, Risaralda and Quindío among departments with higher mortality, driven mainly by heart attacks, homicides and cerebrovascular diseases.

On vaccination, Huila shows intermediate coverage levels. The third dose of the pentavalent vaccine in children under one year remains below the national average of 91.6%, distant from the 95% target. Coverage against the human papillomavirus reaches 54.7% in girls and 44.7% in boys.

The report also notes a 166.8% rise in mental health issues over the past decade and a 78.5% increase in cancer cases between 2015 and 2024.
