Jack Mallers steps down as Twenty One Capital CEO

Jack Mallers has resigned as chief executive of Twenty One Capital, with Raphael Zagury set to take over. The move comes as plans for a combination with Strike have been abandoned.

Jack Mallers is stepping down as CEO of Twenty One Capital to focus on Strike. Raphael Zagury, a board member, will succeed him as the company works toward an orderly handover.

Mallers said the decision followed clarification of his priorities. “My life's work remains Bitcoin. My Bitcoin company is Strike. The work continues,” he wrote. Tether, the controlling shareholder, confirmed the leadership change.

The split ends a strategy Twenty One outlined on April 29 that included possible acquisitions of Strike and Elektron. As of March 31, the company held 43,514 BTC valued at about $2.95 billion along with $114.1 million in cash. Strike will remain independent.

Twenty One stock fell nearly 18 percent following the announcement. Zagury inherits the Bitcoin treasury and a mandate to build cash-generating operations.

Strike CEO Jack Mallers has rejected the notion that Wall Street endangers Bitcoin. He described the digital asset as money for all and insisted it must stay open and accessible to succeed.

Strategy chief Michael Saylor posted a social media message on Sunday morning teasing a pending bitcoin purchase.

Strategy, the world's largest Bitcoin treasury company, agreed on May 15 to repurchase roughly $1.5 billion principal amount of its 2029 convertible notes for an estimated $1.38 billion in cash. The firm may fund the transaction through cash reserves, ATM equity sales, or Bitcoin proceeds.

Strategy boosted its U.S. dollar reserves to $3.225 billion last week by selling common stock. The company left its Bitcoin holdings unchanged at 843,775 BTC. This marks the second consecutive week it has raised cash without selling Bitcoin.

Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX and chief investment officer of Maelstrom, sold the firm's full position in Worldcoin on Friday. The move came less than 24 hours after he publicly stated the fund would hold the token.
