The Principal Secretary for Health announced on June 6 that all 59 suspected Ebola cases in Kenya have tested negative. The update came during an inspection at the Busia-Malaba border amid ongoing surveillance efforts.
Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni confirmed the negative results while inspecting the Busia-Malaba border on June 6. She stated that the findings are reassuring but emphasized that authorities are maintaining heightened vigilance. Malaba processes between 1,500 and 2,000 travellers and about 300 trucks daily. The measures follow confirmed Ebola cases in neighbouring Uganda, where 19 infections and two deaths have been reported mainly in Kampala and Wakiso District. Muthoni highlighted the need for quarantine facilities in all 47 counties. She noted that some travellers have been uncooperative during screening and called for full public cooperation. Kakamega County is already planning two quarantine centres due to its proximity to the border.
