São Paulo rules out second suspected Ebola case in 2026

São Paulo state health authorities have ruled out the second suspected Ebola case in the state this year. The patient, a 31-year-old Brazilian woman who returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo, tested negative.

The woman developed symptoms including fever and diarrhea after returning from the Democratic Republic of Congo. She was admitted to the Instituto de Infectologia Emílio Ribas for observation.

The Instituto Adolfo Lutz conducted molecular biology tests on two samples. Both results were negative for the Ebola virus.

The patient remains hospitalized for treatment of acute gastroenterocolitis and shows favorable clinical progress. This is the second suspected case ruled out in São Paulo in 2026, after a 37-year-old man was investigated in early June with a negative result.

Authorities state that the risk of Ebola in Brazil is very low, but cases meeting clinical and epidemiological criteria are investigated promptly.
