Mixtape started with a devo song and mixtape concept

Beethoven and Dinosaur built its new narrative adventure game Mixtape around a personal collection of favorite tracks. Creative director Johnny Galvatron began with the Devo song “That’s Good” and expanded the idea into a coming-of-age story set in the 1990s.

The Melbourne studio formed in 2017 after Galvatron left his role as frontman of the punk band The Galvatgrons. Working again with publisher Annapurna Interactive, the team structured the soundtrack to support the story of protagonist Stacy Rockford and her friends. Songs span the 1960s through early 1990s, with most tracks from the 1980s. Developers tested song order through a horizontal slice of the full game to check pacing and narrative flow.
