Mixtape entstand aus einem Devo-Song und dem Konzept eines Mixtapes

Beethoven and Dinosaur hat sein neues narratives Abenteuerspiel Mixtape rund um eine persönliche Sammlung von Lieblingsliedern aufgebaut. Creative Director Johnny Galvatron begann mit dem Devo-Song „That’s Good“ und entwickelte daraus eine Coming-of-Age-Geschichte, die in den 1990er Jahren spielt.

Das Studio aus Melbourne wurde 2017 gegründet, nachdem Galvatron seine Rolle als Frontmann der Punkband The Galvatrons aufgegeben hatte. In erneuter Zusammenarbeit mit dem Publisher Annapurna Interactive strukturierte das Team den Soundtrack so, dass er die Geschichte der Protagonistin Stacy Rockford und ihrer Freunde unterstützt. Die Lieder umspannen den Zeitraum von den 1960er bis zu den frühen 1990er Jahren, wobei die meisten Titel aus den 1980ern stammen. Die Entwickler testeten die Song-Reihenfolge anhand eines horizontalen Ausschnitts des vollständigen Spiels, um das Tempo und den narrativen Fluss zu überprüfen.
