Pacitan earthquake briefly halts train operations in Semarang

A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Pacitan, East Java, early on February 6, 2026, leading to a temporary halt of 14 train services in the Semarang area for safety reasons. Train operations in Daop 4 Semarang resumed normally after thorough inspections. Meanwhile, several homes in Pacitan reported minor damage with no casualties.

In Pacitan, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported initial damage to two buildings, including partial collapses of homes in Kebon Neighborhood, Ploso Ward, Pacitan District; Kembang Village; and Kedungbendo Village, Arjosari District. "We are currently in the monitoring and data collection phase. Initial information confirms reports of building damage," said Erwin Andriatmoko, Head of BPBD Pacitan Operations. Meanwhile, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 4 Semarang implemented the Extraordinary Stop (BLB) procedure for 14 train services, comprising 10 passenger and four freight trains. The halt followed tremors felt by drivers, followed by inspections of tracks, bridges, and signaling systems lasting about one hour. Operations resumed normally at 02:16 WIB.

"Every potential risk must be ensured safe before train services resume," stated Luqman Arif, KAI Daop 4 Semarang's Public Relations Manager. KAI apologized for the delays and emphasized its commitment to safety. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned of possible aftershocks.
