A 28-year-old Pennsylvania man faces attempted murder charges after stabbing a Planet Fitness employee multiple times. The attack followed his ban from the gym for an unpaid bill. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries but is recovering.
Davier Massey was banned from the Planet Fitness at 1000 South Easton Road in Wyncote on Wednesday due to an outstanding bill, according to Philadelphia ABC affiliate WPVI. He returned to the gym on Thursday, left briefly, and came back around 12:30 p.m., causing a disturbance, Cheltenham Township Police Department said. An argument with an employee escalated, and Massey stabbed the victim several times, police reported. Officers arrived to find the man with multiple stab wounds and rushed him to a trauma center for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The victim is now recovering in the hospital. Massey was arrested a short distance away and is detained without bail in Montgomery County Correctional Facility. He faces charges including criminal attempted murder of the first degree, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and disorderly conduct. A preliminary hearing is set for April 16. Planet Fitness expressed sorrow in a statement: 'We are saddened by the incident that took place at our Cheltenham location. Our thoughts are with the team member as they recover. We appreciate local law enforcement's quick action, and the franchise owner is fully supporting them in their investigation.'
