PWD repairs over 2,000 potholes across Delhi in special drive

The Public Works Department repaired more than 2,000 potholes in Delhi on Sunday as part of preparations for the monsoon season. Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh highlighted ongoing efforts to improve road conditions before rainfall begins.

The Delhi government has undertaken several steps to ready the capital for heavy rains. These include desilting drains, fixing drainage in prone areas and repairing roads. The monsoon, normally due by June 27, has been delayed this year.

Records show that 14,757 potholes were identified on PWD roads from January 1 to June 4, 2026. Of these, 12,762 had been fixed before Sunday’s drive targeted the rest.

“PWD remains vigilant throughout the year in addressing complaints related to potholes and road maintenance,” Mr. Singh said. He noted that new roads will carry a five-year maintenance clause to ensure contractors fix defects.

Mr. Singh added that quality standards on older roads had been inadequate and that the department has now strengthened controls and accountability.
