IK Sirius beat favorites Hammarby IF 2–0 in their Allsvenskan home opener before a record 10,306 spectators at Studenternas IP in Uppsala. Goals came from Isak Bjerkebo and Robbie Ure, extending their perfect start following a 3–0 opener against Degerfors to put Sirius top of the table. The victory avenged a prior cup defeat.
IK Sirius took an early lead in the ninth minute as Isak Bjerkebo slotted home 1–0 from just inside the penalty area, a low shot into the right corner. Hammarby controlled possession but Sirius held firm until halftime, aided by a solid defense featuring center-backs Tobias Acker and Mohamed Soumah.
In the 70th minute, goalkeeper David Celic launched a long clearance that bounced awkwardly off Hammarby's Viktor Eriksson into the path of Robbie Ure, who rolled in 2–0 on a breakaway. "It was a great pass from him (Celic) and that he saw me running," Ure told SVT Sport.
"At 2–0 we always feel secure," Ure added to Dagens Nyheter. Isak Bjerkebo called the win deserved: "We created the best chances and won fairly in the end." Hammarby coach Kalle Karlsson had warned of Sirius's counterattacks.
Following their 3–0 win over Degerfors, Sirius now has maximum points from two games and a 5–0 goal difference, topping the table. The match drew a record crowd to Uppsala, and the team has now proven strength against top sides like Hammarby, who were shut out despite their strong opener against Mjällby.
