Six students disappear in Jalisco after graduation

Six young people disappeared in Jalisco between June 25 and 30 after attending graduation ceremonies. Authorities are investigating possible recruitment by organized crime.

Three of the missing were last seen on June 25 in Puerto Vallarta. They are Flor Yoselin Espinoza Contreras, 18; José Israel Ramos Mejía, 17; and Elvira Monserrat Guzmán Mascorro, 14. They were heading to their graduation ceremony when they lost contact with their families.

Days later, three more teenagers disappeared in Guadalajara after graduating from Secundaria Técnica 113. They are Justhin Enrique Torres Sandoval, 15; Jórdan Isaac García López, 14; and Christopher Alfredo Sandoval Muñoz, 14. One had mentioned plans to work in the mountains for three months.

Vice Prosecutor Blanca Trujillo Cuevas said the youths contacted their families to say they were fine but would not return for now. The prosecutor's office is investigating possible forced or voluntary recruitment by criminal groups and requested assistance from authorities in Colima and Michoacán.
