Sublime announces first new album in 30 years

Sublime has announced 'Until The Sun Explodes', its first new album since 1996 and the first featuring vocalist Jakob Nowell. The record, due out on June 12 via Atlantic, includes collaborations with artists including H.R., FIDLAR and G. Love. The band released the title track alongside a video shot in Long Beach.

Sublime, the ska-punk band formed in 1988 by bassist Eric Wilson, drummer Bud Gaugh and the late vocalist Bradley Nowell, revealed details of 'Until The Sun Explodes' on March 25. The 21-track album marks the group's first full-length release since their self-titled 1996 effort, which came out two months after Nowell's death from a heroin overdose. Jakob Nowell, Bradley's son, takes over lead vocals, joined by Wilson and Gaugh. They first confirmed new music last year, with help from Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, and previewed singles including 'Ensenada' last year and a 2024 collaboration 'Feel Like That' with Stick Figure, which features archival Bradley Nowell recordings but is not on the new album. The title track pays tribute to Bradley, with Jakob singing, 'Until the sun blows up in the sky / I owe you my life.' Its video, filmed in the band's Long Beach hometown, highlights local history and SoCal skate culture, with cameos from pro skateboarders Christian Hosoi and Omar Hassan. Jakob Nowell described the album as 'an epilogue' to Sublime's history: 'The last Sublime record that will ever be made is Self-Titled... It is a tribute to the expansive works of Sublime... I love you dad, and I owe you my life.' Bud Gaugh added, 'This song... expresses the gratitude we all feel as well as our intent for the future of our band.' Eric Wilson said, 'I am really excited about the album that’s coming out. I think it will set the tone for the summer of 2026!' The tracklist includes 'Ensenada', 'Wizard', 'Backwards (feat. FIDLAR)', 'Trey’s Song (feat. H.R. of Bad Brains)' and '247-369 (feat. Fletcher Dragge of Pennywise)'. Sublime will make its UK debut at Slam Dunk Festival over the late May Bank Holiday weekend.
