Tribeca Festival to open with Questlove Earth, Wind & Fire documentary

The Tribeca Festival is set to begin with the world premiere of a documentary on Earth, Wind & Fire directed by Questlove. The 25th edition runs in Lower Manhattan through June 14.

The festival debuts Wednesday with Earth, Wind & Fire: To Be Celestial vs. That’s the Weight of the World. It closes June 14 with the premiere of Alicia Keys: Girl From Hell’s Kitchen. In between, the lineup includes documentaries on Sara Bareilles, Peter Frampton, Noga Erez, The Lox, Travis Barker, Katy Perry and Mumford & Sons. Tribeca Festival director Cara Cusumano discussed the nonfiction slate during an appearance on the Doc Talk podcast. Additional films cover chefs who cooked for dictators, the life of former New York governor Mario Cuomo and comedians who have impersonated U.S. presidents. The festival is held in Lower Manhattan.
