Trump credits Walmart for planned summer price cuts

President Donald Trump said Walmart agreed to lower prices on items including ground beef and corn following a request from his administration. The retailer confirmed cuts on several summer staples shortly after the president's statement on Truth Social.

Trump posted that Walmart would reduce prices by a significant amount to mark the country's 250th birthday. He highlighted a nearly 15 percent drop in the cost of ground beef along with other products.

Walmart later detailed the changes, including ground beef falling from $6.74 to $5.94 per pound. Additional reductions were set for red cherries, corn on the cob, ice cream, potato chips, disposable plates and soda.

Sam's Club also announced lower prices on meat products such as chicken wings, hot dogs and pork ribs. The moves come amid an inflation rate of 4.2 percent reported for May 2026.

Trump linked the price adjustments to broader declines in oil and gas costs. He urged other retailers to follow Walmart's example.
