Once a top-50 prospect in the Tampa Bay Rays organization, Bruján has a lifetime batting line of .199/.267/.276 over 645 plate appearances. In the previous season, he improved to .253/.305/.310 while appearing for the Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles, and Atlanta Braves.
Bruján now joins the Twins' utility group, which includes Kody Clemens, Ryan Kreidler, and non-roster invitee Orlando Arcia. Luke Keaschall and Brooks Lee are projected to start at second base and shortstop for Minnesota, respectively, though both face questions about their defense.
