Visby/Roma has secured a spot in Hockeyallsvenskan, eliciting concerns from rival teams about the logistics and expenses of traveling to Gotland. Kalmar's sports director Daniel Stolt described the situation as a nightmare. Nybro Vikings also expects substantial financial burdens.
Visby/Roma's rise to Hockeyallsvenskan has divided opinions among competitors. While a triumph for the Gotland club, it poses logistical challenges for others due to the island's remote location, requiring ferries rather than straightforward bus trips. Stolt told Barometern that coordinating travel, hotels, and ferries could force teams to arrive two days early in worst-case scenarios. He compared it unfavorably to away games against Modo in Örnsköldsvik, where buses suffice, or Björklöven, where costs align despite the distance. Without funds to fly, Kalmar estimates each trip at around 100,000 kronor, driven by ferries and meals. Nybro Vikings shares similar worries. Klubbdirektör Anders Westring anticipates a six-figure expense per visit, far exceeding what promotion by Hudiksvall would have cost. These reactions highlight the unique burdens of including an island team in the league, though Visby/Roma's achievement stands firm.
