Washington man sentenced to 21 years for father's murder

A Washington state man has been sentenced to 21 years in prison after pleading guilty to stabbing his father to death in their Spokane home.

Damian Eiffert, 40, received the sentence Thursday in Spokane County Superior Court for the October 22, 2024, killing of his father, Robert Eiffert, 61. He admitted to plunging a steak knife into the victim's neck, head and chest while the older man sat in a recliner.

Spokane police responded to a stabbing report at 2:29 p.m. that day and found Robert Eiffert with fatal wounds. Damian Eiffert later told investigators he could not take his father anymore and admitted to using methamphetamine and suffering opioid withdrawal at the time.

After the attack, Eiffert called his ex-girlfriend and fled in his father's car. Officers found him later that day on Interstate 90 near Cheney, where he was taken into custody after a standoff.

Eiffert had nearly a dozen prior felony convictions. Prosecutors noted the 21-year term fell at the low end of the standard range for second-degree murder.
