A new episode of the A&E series Killer Investigations aired on Thursday detailing the murder of Tania Wise in St. Lucie County, Florida. The program focuses on evidence that led to the conviction and death sentence of Jose Soto-Escalera.
The episode titled A Mother's Murder premiered at 10 p.m. ET on June 25. It recounts how police discovered Wise's body in a roadside ditch with deep lacerations to her throat while she was nearly nine months pregnant.
Company cameras in Soto-Escalera's garbage truck recorded him discussing plans to kill Wise with his nephew. The footage and other evidence including DNA from the truck and synced surveillance video were presented at trial.
A jury convicted Soto-Escalera of two counts of first-degree murder after deliberating just over an hour. The panel recommended the death penalty by an 8-4 vote and the sentence was imposed.
Wise's mother Elizabeth Bedolla and son Jamar Bedolla shared their grief in the program. Prosecutors described the truck recordings as key evidence in the case.
