Months after Sweden captured gold at the junior world championship, Alfons Freij continues to reflect on the experience that changed everything for the 20-year-old defenseman.
Freij, who plays for Timrå, described the team as a family that came together without any internal divisions.
"It clicked right away," he said. "We were a very strong group that came together and there were no groupings, everyone was with everyone."
He credited the unity for the success and praised coach Magnus Hävelid for creating the right environment from the start. Freij said the bond meant everything and remains the standout memory.
The player has hung up his jersey and medal at home and said he plans to get a tattoo of them. Viral clips from the celebration still circulate on social media, prompting reminders from young fans.
