Apex Legends launches Breach season with new Hardlight Meshes

Electronic Arts has released patch notes for Apex Legends' new season, Breach, introducing destructible Hardlight Meshes to encourage breach-and-clear gameplay. The update includes reworks to Fuse, buffs for Catalyst and Bloodhound, and shifts in the weapon meta favoring shotguns. Published on February 9, 2026, these changes aim to evolve the battle royale experience.

The Apex Legends Breach season, announced on February 9, 2026, brings significant updates to the game, starting with the introduction of Hardlight Meshes. These translucent structures act as destructible and breachable windows scattered across buildings in the game world. Intact meshes block projectiles and player movement but allow visibility through them. They have a default health of 200 HP and take increased damage from explosives (8.5x), shotguns (2.5x), snipers (3.5x), and Legend abilities (10.0x). Once broken, Hardlight Meshes rebuild after a 4-second delay and cannot be reinforced inside the ring. Controller Legends can reinforce them to 1250 HP, though with limits: a maximum of four reinforcements per player, and decay occurs if the reinforcer exceeds limits or leaves the area.

Legend updates focus on three characters. Fuse receives a major rework, with developers noting, 'This old dog needed some new tricks.' His ultimate now fires a mortar that explodes on impact and sprays smaller bombs, piercing cover up to 13 meters when aimed down sights. The tactical, Knuckle Cluster, sees faster activation (1.0s delay from 1.7s), increased base damage (15 from 10), and reduced duration by 50%, alongside no slowdown from explosive damage. Catalyst gets buffs to compete better, including reinforcing up to four doors (from two), larger tactical area (50% increase), three traps maximum (from two), and reduced activation delay (1s from 2s). Bloodhound's passive and tactical improve tracking, with the ultimate cooldown reduced to 2.5 minutes (from 4) and activation time cut by 20%.

Weapon changes emphasize close-quarters combat, with marksman nerfs and shotgun buffs. The G7 Scout enters the Care Package with 37 damage (up from 36), increased fire rate, and a new Double Tap Trigger hop-up. Shotguns like the Mastiff adjust to five pellets at 19 damage each (from six at 16), while the EVA-8 gains a slight fire rate increase. Balance tweaks tie knockdown shields to Legend level, removing them from loot, and add white backpacks to starter kits.

Audio enhancements in Season 28 offer granular customization for Legend, Ping, and Announcer Dialogue, building on the Focused Mix from Season 27. Ranked matchmaking will dynamically restrict Masters players from lower Diamond ranks based on population, and Drop Zones are disabled for traditional dropship deploys. Developers plan to monitor feedback, especially on Hardlight, and adjust as needed.

Bungie has released update 1.0.5.2 for Marathon, its extraction shooter, introducing incentives for players to assist strangers. The CyberAcme Runner Reinforcement Initiative offers bonus rewards for completing contracts or exfiling with non-crew players, alongside a Mercy Kit for reviving downed opponents. Balance changes include nerfs to thermal scopes and claymore drones.

Bungie game director Joseph Ziegler announced upcoming balance patches for Marathon to address combat issues identified through observations and player feedback. Changes target the knife's scaling, bubble shields, thermal scopes, and snipers, with buffs for Vandal and Recon shells. Additional secret updates will introduce new items for solo revives and merciful options between teams.

Bungie released a patch on March 31 for Marathon, eliminating slide-canceling and Thief grappling hook movement exploits used for unfair advantages. Changes include reopening an Outpost destroyed wing shortcut with a puzzle, Pinwheel loot and challenge improvements, a new locked keycard room, bullet-proof glass in the Hub, and a Dire Marsh bug fix. The game has sold over 1.2 million copies since launch amid strong reviews.
