Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys and other music figures delivered eulogies Monday at the funeral of record executive Clive Davis in New York City. The service honored Davis, who died June 22 at age 94.
The funeral took place at Central Synagogue in Manhattan. Springsteen recalled auditioning for Davis in 1972 and receiving an immediate contract offer from Columbia Records. He said Davis showed him consistent warmth and support over five decades.
Alicia Keys described her first meeting with Davis at age 15. She credited him with recognizing her potential and guiding her debut album Songs in A Minor to release in 2001.
Dionne Warwick, Barry Manilow and Davis’s son Doug also spoke. Performances included Kenny G playing Songbird and Jennifer Hudson singing Hallelujah. A letter from Paul Simon was read during the service.
Davis signed and championed numerous artists throughout his career. Speakers highlighted his loyalty and belief in their work.
