Former Morelos governor and federal deputy Cuauhtémoc Blanco denounced that protesters intercepted his vehicle and attacked his family last Sunday while he was heading to the Mexican national team match in Mexico City.
Blanco issued a statement rejecting that the actions were peaceful protests. He described how a group surrounded his truck, struck the bodywork and created an atmosphere of panic for his wife, children and other relatives.
According to Blanco’s account, his wife was recording the events with a phone when a person struck the device against the vehicle’s glass. He denied initiating any aggression and stated that his sole priority was to protect his family.
The politician noted that he respects freedom of expression but condemned the use of violence. He concluded that in a rule-of-law state the safety of citizens must prevail over any ideological difference.
