Egypt marks Earth Day 2026 under 'Our Power, Our Planet' theme

Egypt marked Earth Day 2026 on Wednesday, April 22, under the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” as part of efforts to raise environmental awareness and accelerate the shift to clean energy, the Ministry of Local Development and Environment said. Minister Manal Awad stated that the occasion reflects growing global awareness of environmental challenges amid calls for concrete action on climate change.

The Ministry of Local Development and Environment announced that Egypt observed Earth Day 2026 under the theme “Our Power, Our Planet” to boost environmental awareness.

The ministry organized seminars and workshops in schools and universities to encourage community participation in environmental protection. Minister Manal Awad said in a statement: “Egypt is steadily advancing towards a green economy, expanding its reliance on clean energy sources and integrating sustainability into development policies.”

Awad stressed that coordinated efforts by the government, private sector, and citizens are essential for the sustainable use of natural resources, emphasizing the need to translate awareness into practical behavior.

Egypt is implementing a comprehensive climate strategy focused on adaptation and mitigation, including renewable energy projects, resource efficiency improvements, and waste management enhancements. Awad noted tangible progress in embedding environmental considerations into national development plans to support low-emission economic growth.

Earth Day is held annually on April 22 since 1970 and has become one of the world’s largest civic events for environmental protection.
