Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk met with World Bank Regional Director Meskerem Brhane to discuss strengthening cooperation on food security, sustainable agriculture, and rural development.
The Tuesday meeting forms part of Egypt’s efforts to deepen international partnerships with global financial institutions. Discussions focused on the World Bank Group’s AgriConnect initiative aimed at helping 300 million smallholder farmers shift to market-oriented production. The sides also reviewed Egypt’s Productive Village initiative designed to leverage each village’s productive advantages. Other topics included modernising agricultural cooperatives, expanding digital advisory services, upgrading irrigation systems, supporting research and development, and improving farmers’ access to finance through insurance schemes and credit guarantees.
