CEOE president Antonio Garamendi has unexpectedly called the Executive Committee for July 1 to set the date for the employer's association leadership elections.
Garamendi has moved up the meeting, originally set for July 15, in order to set the election date before August. Organization sources say the goal is to avoid overlap with the Ibero-American summit in November.
The statutes require a minimum three-month period from the call, so the elections could take place between late September and early October. Garamendi has not yet confirmed whether he will seek a third term, though it is assumed in business circles.
The announcement comes amid internal tensions from last year's CEPYME elections and reports of a protected informant who filed a document against Garamendi. The president has not clarified his re-election intentions, which would be possible until 2030 following the 2023 statutory reform.
