The controversy erupted recently when a GPD representative posted on Reddit, stating, "The official Adaptation of GPD Win5 is happening," and directing users with Bazzite issues to join GPD's Discord for consultation with a Bazzite representative. This claim builds on earlier mentions from September 2025, when GPD highlighted Bazzite compatibility for the pricey Win 5 handheld in promotional materials.
Kyle Gospodnetich, founder of the Bazzite project—a popular Linux distribution optimized for gaming handhelds—responded swiftly in the project's Discord server. He wrote: "Nope GPD lied to you sorry We don't officially work with anyone, we make hardware work and that's it. I have no recent contact from them." This blunt rebuttal underscores Bazzite's independent stance, focusing on broad hardware compatibility rather than exclusive partnerships.
GPD, known for its compact Windows-based gaming devices, has faced similar scrutiny before. In 2022, the company blocked the GamingOnLinux Twitter account after it criticized GPD for repurposing YouTube videos from creators without proper attribution.
