Indigenous designers gathered in Santa Fe this past weekend to present new works that merge traditional crafts with contemporary styles at the 2026 SWAIA Native Fashion Week gala and fashion show.
Last Saturday evening, guests in Indigenous-made designs and turquoise jewelry arrived at the historic Eldorado Hotel for the event, which featured five contemporary designers: Jamie Okuma, Pamela Baker, Patricia Michaels, Jontay Kahm, and Lauren Good Day. Each created five looks interpreting handcraft and couture, including Okuma's draped plaid gown and leather pieces, Kahm's sculptural organza dresses resembling feathers, and Good Day's colorful ribbon skirts with beaded moccasins and cradleboards.
