Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) stated on March 22, 2026, that shifting former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas to house arrest in the Hajj quota corruption case is an investigation strategy, not due to illness, spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said in Jakarta.
Following the shift of Yaqut Cholil Qoumas from KPK detention to house arrest on the evening of March 19, 2026—as previously reported after a family request on March 17—KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo clarified the decision's rationale. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, March 22, he emphasized it was not health-related: “Bukan karena kondisi sakit” (Not because of health condition). He added, “Setiap proses penyidikan tentu memiliki kondisi dan strategi penanganan perkara yang berbeda, termasuk dalam penahanan seseorang sebagai tersangka” (Every investigation process has different conditions and handling strategies, including for detaining a suspect). Prasetyo distinguished Yaqut's situation from that of former Papua Governor Lukas Enembe, who received house arrest due to illness before his death. Fellow detainees had noted Yaqut's absence since March 19, including during Idul Fitri prayers. KPK assured continued close monitoring of Yaqut at home during this temporary phase.
