New York Mets right-hander Clay Holmes suffered a fractured right fibula after taking a 111.1 mph line drive off the bat of Yankees rookie Spencer Jones on Friday night. Manager Carlos Mendoza said Holmes will miss a long time, with the injury expected to sideline him for much of the 2026 season.
Holmes was struck in the lower leg during the fourth inning of a 5-2 loss to the Yankees. He remained in the game and pitched into the fifth inning before departing after allowing four runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. The Mets placed him on the injured list and recalled reliever Joey Gerber to fill his roster spot.
