The New York Yankees recalled shortstop Anthony Volpe from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday after placing José Caballero on the 10-day injured list with a fractured right middle finger.
The move came ahead of the Yankees' game against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. Volpe had been optioned to Triple-A on May 3 after being reinstated from the 10-day injured list, allowing Caballero to take over as the everyday shortstop. Manager Aaron Boone expects Caballero to reclaim the role once healthy. Max Schuemann started at shortstop in Tuesday's game while Volpe traveled to the ballpark.
