A 24-year-old Nevada man has been sentenced to 12 to 33 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the 2025 shooting death of his mother's boyfriend.
Akili Porter was sentenced on Thursday in Las Vegas for killing Jamere Watley. The shooting occurred in September 2025 at the home the three shared.
Court records show Porter pleaded guilty in May to second-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon. He had originally faced an open murder charge.
Security footage captured the incident, which followed an argument over a slammed door. Porter claimed he feared for his life, but police said he appeared calm during the shooting.
Watley's sister, Jamillah Douthet, told the court the killing was premeditated. Porter will be eligible for parole after 12 years.
