Oregon child welfare authorities removed a 15-year-old girl from her mother's home in July 2024 after determining that the mother's refusal to affirm the girl's transgender identity constituted emotional abuse.
Police arrived at Nicole's door that month and took her daughter, identified in court filings as Jane Doe, into protective custody. Oregon Department of Human Services later issued a September 2024 notice stating that Nicole had caused her daughter a mental injury by not supporting the girl's gender identity and by delivering lectures on the topic.
